The Man For Others, a title the author derives from J. A. T. Robinson's Honest to Cod, is a significant contribution to the so-called “Honest to Cod controversy.” Routley appreciates and values what Robinson is seeking to do in Honest to Cod and tries to take the matter a step beyond the confusion and perplexity which that book aroused in many quarters. Routley does this by restating the doctrine of Christ, his nature and work as reconciler and redeemer, in terms that are, in his judgment, both faithful to the Gospels and relevant to the modern mind.
