This often cited but never before translated work by Martin Kahler, through whom Paid Tillich says "the power of the Protestant principle first became apparent” to him, is a late nineteenth-century study which speaks with new immediacy in our time when the question of the relation of historical criticism to the Christian faith is being raised again.
