In this work, now issued for the first time in paperback, Professor Barrett looks through the teaching of the Gospels to the teaching of Jesus himself, about his person, his mission, his suffering, and his hopes for the future. He argues that Jesus was in some respects mistaken in his predictions about his death and parousia, but insists that he was thereby more effectively shown to be right in all that really mattered. There is much interest in this delineation by one of our foremost New Testament scholars of the Jesus who emerges from a rigorous questioning of the Gospel record.
