Volume: 149 pages. : Color of cover: Brown. ISBN: 0802818552.Класифікація: 238.142 / Mac / 1980Анотація: THE NICENE CREED was accepted as a formulation of the apostolic faith sixteen centuries ago. It is the claim' of Geddes Mac-Gregor that the Creed, despite its ancient language, is "a catalyst for contemporary thought, challenging some of our outmoded presuppositions while provoking us to a richer understanding of what Christians for so many centuries have so lovingly and joyfully proclaimed as the mainspring of their lives.” MacGregor demonstrates this in the fifteen chapters of this book by highlighting the various affirmations of the Nicene Creed, explaining briefly how they were meant in the fourth century when the Creed was drafted, and then pointing to ways in which contemporary thought illuminates them for believers today. The emphasis throughout the book is on contemporary thought, which, MacGregor believes, is far more hospitable to the beliefs of orthodox Christianity than the rationalistic science of an earlier age which saw the universe as a giant machine and so found little room for God. Though not a devotional book in the usual sense of the term, this book is oriented toward the appropriation of the Nicene Creed for the readers personal life of faith. .Найменування теми як предметна рубрика: The Nicene Creed Тип одиниці: Книги
