Drawing heavily on both biblical and historical theology, James Leo Garrett, Jr., offers a thorough, contemporary study of Christian beliefs, examining them individually as well as in relation to one another. A distinctive feature of this systematic theology is its solid biblical-historical basis: Garrett’s orderly, detailed exposition of the doctrines of the Christian faith is founded not only on exegesis of all the pertinent Old and New Testament texts but also on the formulation and defense of Christian teaching from the patristic period to the modern age. Divine revelation, as recorded in the Bible, is the starting point, but Garrett’s comprehensive scope leaves room for Christian tradition (including the history of Christian doctrine) and Christian experience as secondary sources. Though Garrett writes from within the evangelical, specifically Baptist, tradition, he interacts with numerous theologians and exegetes from across the religious spectrum, and his scholarship is marked by an even- handed spirit. As a basic textbook in systematic theology, his work is intended first of all for classroom use; however, the book will also be useful to pastors and educated Christians who want to attain a deeper understanding of the Christian faith. .Найменування теми як предметна рубрика: Theology, Doctrinal | Systematic theology, Eschatology Тип одиниці:
